The high serum neopterin levels in our patients correlated well with Samsonov et al.'s results but increased urine neopterin levels in ARF were recorded in the literature. In conclusion, high neopterin concentrations indicate the activity of cellular immune system. An increase in neopterin concentrations supplies information on the activation state of cell-mediated immunity in ARF. This information may be useful for the prognosis and monitoring of ARF.
